Coleg Sir Gâr has extended its sports academy and teamed up with Machynys Peninsula Golf Club to offer a new opportunity for students.

Responding to local demand, the golf academy will join the existing West Wales Sports Academy, which has already been extremely successful in nurturing and developing professional players in rugby, football and netball.

Based at the college’s Llanelli campus, the academy will provide opportunities for young players to receive specialist tuition from John Peters, GUW national coach and head teaching professional at Machynys Peninsula Golf Club in Llanelli, and a specialised fitness and personal programme, devised and supported by sports science staff at Coleg Sir Gâr.

Students will also have access to the golf course and the club’s Monks Health Club, during and after academy sessions, receive various driving range discounts as well as being provided with video analysis during sessions. 

Joining the college’s West Wales Sports Academy, means that students will be supported in their chosen sport through mentoring, fitness and development, scholarship support and flexibility during studies to pursue training and competition opportunities. The new golf academy has been supported and sponsored by Voltcom, an engineering consultancy company.
